The appropriately titled team of “Little Louie” Vega and Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez are one of the most successful remix teams ever. Their unique combination of Hip-House-Jazz style remixes have made them originators in a sound that has tried to be duplicated by many others, yet without the success that MAW has had….
Masters At Work is the house music production and remix team of Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez and Little Louie Vega. They first worked together using the name (which had originally been loaned to a mutual friend Todd Terry) in 1990.
MAW have a history as remixers, having recreated tracks for various acts both inside and outside the world of dance music. Some of the artists remixed by the two producers include Madonna, Donna Summer, Janet Jackson, Jamiroquai and Earth Wind & Fire.
Their name says it all – Masters At Work. For over a decade, “Little Louie” Vega and Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez have shepherded dance music down new paths with their inventive production style and imaginative feel for different musical forms. The two native New Yorkers have amassed an overwhelming body of work in that time, one that includes hundreds of original productions, remixes and side projects, redefining the way we think of music in clubs. Vega and Gonzalez defiantly mix everything they can find – house, hip-hop, funk, disco, Latin, African and jazz – into a universal groove. And in doing so, MAW has become a cultural mélange unto itself, emblematic of the multicultural society in which we live.
